It has been a busy few days in terms of Portuguese player transfers. So, lets get started, shall we….
The Portuguese international, who was recently included in Portugal’s World Cup squad, has enjoyed a decent half-season for French powerhouse Lille, where he moved to from Wolfsburg in January. He will join Valencia on July 1, although if Portugal make it far enough in the World Cup, he may be joining them later. Costa will be the third Portuguese player on Valencia’s books, the others being Manuel Fernandes and Miguel.
Portuguese midfielder Maniche recently rescinded his contract with German outfit Koln, who he joined lat summer after having been released by Atletico Madrid. Since joining, he has enjoyed varying degrees of success, but overall has had a season to forget. His reason for leaving? Besides the German media pouncing on every mistake he commits, his kids don’t enjoy their school. So, Maniche looks to move back to Portugal, namely Sporting, to rediscover what happiness feels like, and if you look at how he played for Porto, this move may be VERY good for him.
Portuguese U-21 international Fabio Faria has met up with the club that he will be representing next season, Benfica, for a tournament in Canada and the United States.
Portuguese international Deco has recently stated that he looks to move back to his country of birth (Brazil) in order to finish his career where it started. Fluminese were said to be interested, but have opted out due to his high salary, so Sporting are now said to be interested in the midfielder. Although this move looks improbable, if Sporting actually do sign him along with Maniche and Ze Castro, both of whom they are linked with, then we may see a skilled team next season.
