In a week where the Benfica, Porto & Sporting went 3-0 in the Liga dominating it also included the Champions League where they went 0-2-1, so it was a roller coaster ride in Portuguese Football.

Liga Match Round-up

First up was Sporting who had to travel to Penafiel to smash 4 goals home in a convincing win. Sporting continued their rise with Slimani hammering 2 home and Nani once again showing that returning home was the best thing for Nani with a classy goal. No denying that this Sporting team has a lot of potential to do damage.

The Liga then decided to play Benfica & Porto in the same timeslot which is extremely annoying to us Liga fans as we had a hard time concentrating on both games, posting then editing in Photoshop with only two screens. Need at least 4 screens to do those match-ups justice.

Porto was at home taking on Braga in the match of the week and it was a little closer than most Portista’s liked. Porto clearly won, and should’ve scored more. Unfortunately for us the Big 4 is coming back to a Big 3, and the divide is great.

Benfica took on the spirited Arouca at home who have many Liga scalps in their collection including beating SC Braga in the Liga and are never an easy out. Goicoechea their Goalkeeper in the first half was the difference he had many a highlight reel save to deny Benfica. Arouca’s counterattack was vicious but the score stayed level.

Benfica in the second half dominated and it was only a matter of time. Ola John came on for Gaitan and the game turned on a dime leading to direct assists for Ola as they crushed Arouca 4-0. In the end the ill-favoured Artur kept them in the game early and players like Man of the Match Talisca & Ola john stood out.

Benfica maintained their 4 point lead at the top of the Liga and all Big 3 remain undefeated which makes for a great battle going forward. Mourinho’s favourite Talisca has taken hold of the Top Scorer in the Liga.

Great set of weekend matches, that had the fans ablaze on Twitter, with the International break upon us expect the talk to shift into Fernando Santos and the National team.
