Introducing Lauren Jenks! is pleased to welcome the newest member of our writing team, Laruen Jenks. Lauren is a Sporting fan, and will certainly add to the content of the site. Here is her introduction:

Hi there, everyone.

I’m Lauren Jenks, the proud and latest addition to the Writers’ team.

I am someone who has had a complete life of football, something which began from a very early age and my love and passion for the sport just increased over time. But only in the last 2 years or so I started to develop a passion for writing about the sport and voicing my opinions in articles, and it is now something I do on a regular basis and something I can see myself doing long-term in the future.

Having read many of the articles on this website, and being a keen follower of Portuguese football, I soon developed a keen interest in writing for the site. Portuguese football is something I follow religiously, from the Liga to the Seleção.

My interest in Portuguese football developed around 5 years ago, and it was then that I basically fell in love with Sporting Clube de Portugal. Being an England-born follower of Portuguese football and an English Sporting fan, it is different as, in my view, you won’t find too many like me. But there is so much about this club that I love, from the academy to the supporters in the ground on a match day. It truly is a wonderful club to support, and in my view, the best club in Portugal. The Portuguese Liga only started being aired live in England at the start of the 2014/15 season, so the recognition it gets is rather limited, given that even now there aren’t many games that get shown on a weekly basis. Nonetheless, I never miss a Sporting match. I must add that it is an ambition of mine to visit the Estádio José Alvalade in my lifetime.

I have a very keen interest in the National Team, as well. My three favourite players, very conveniently, are all Portuguese. Those players being William Carvalho, Nani and of course, Cristiano Ronaldo. Also, when it comes to the Seleção, I become rather opinionated on who the manager should pick, which player should play where and what system should be played in order to get the best out of the team, rather than just one player.

I am truly delighted to be a part of this team, and I thank Sam a lot for giving me this opportunity. I hope that within my articles, and can increase your overall interest in Portuguese football as a whole. I also hope to express my own perspective of certain issues with my own style of writing.

  1. As a fellow follower of Fc Sporting welcome. I love watching Spirting play. Nice to watch A Portuguese team, with Portuguese players on the field. I love Portuguese league, but Porto, and Benfica are unwatchable because there are almost no Portuguese players to Cheer for. I have nothing against foreign soccer players, they certainly enhance our league. I just don’t like to watch teams that have no homegrown players. Welcome again.

  2. Welcome Lauren happy to have you on board, I am glad you followed up on our conversation, as I do enjoy reading your posts on twitter.

Although there are many Brit Portuguese fans.. I think our two nations historically have always been allies.. those that really standout in their service of our game are Tom Kundert at PortuGOAL and Ben Shave who I used to do the Portuguese Football Show with.. both are big Sportinguistas as well so you are in a good group.. Chip.

Welcome to the crew I look forward to reading your articles.. we were missing a guy like you.
