Sporting did not go ahead with the purchase of 75% of the pass for 600 thousand euros and will now see the value of the winger, at least, quintuple
Geny Catamo will become more expensive for Sporting’s coffers, because the club did not move forward with the phased purchase of the Mozambican winger’s pass. The lions only hold 25% of the economic rights of the left-hander they rescued from Amora, still a junior, in 2019, and for whom they paid 200 thousand euros. They chose not to invest close to 200,000 euros each year to reach the entire pass (see piece on the right). After all, 600 thousand euros were saved, but this decision will have guaranteed inflation. Now, Frederico Varandas will have to negotiate an agreement with SAD do Amora and, O JOGO knows, that means, at least, putting five times more on the table.
The club on the south bank of the Tagus is calm with the process and, O JOGO knows, does not yet have an open conversation with Sporting. However, with the player’s move to the Lions’ main team, and with four games played in the I League so far, his appreciation has skyrocketed and Amora intends to take advantage of this, as is natural. According to what O JOGO was able to learn, the threshold will be three million euros, a sum that could represent a fruitful start for talks with the SAD of the club that competes in League 3, but such a price could skyrocket depending on the individual moments of the extreme, and even the campaign that Sporting will do in Europe.
It might generate some surprise that Sporting has wasted the chance to close a deal that would cost 800 thousand euros; this situation is due, found O JOGO, to distrust in the potential of Geny Catamo. Despite the quality of the player, the green and white officials were postponing a decision, concentrating their last efforts on the summer market to make the most of exits and guarantee reinforcements for Amorim in the positions of striker (Gyokeres), defensive midfielder (Hjulmand) and right back ( Fresneda). Although Catamo enchanted as soon as he appeared in the juniors, and made 17 appearances for the B team in 2020/21, loans to V. Guimarães and Marítimo revealed a player incapable of asserting himself, totaling 21 appearances spread over two seasons.
Rúben Amorim offered him the opportunity and the Mozambican took it. He was a right winger while Ricardo Esgaio was alone in the position, he is now seen as an alternative to Nuno Santos on the left and can also play as a winger on both flanks. With a contract until 2025, and a release clause of 60 million euros, Sporting will be interested in increasing the percentage of the pass.
business process
Phased payment rested Sporting and it was a precise solution
When Varandas arrived at SAD, Sporting prioritized paying less and, with that, leaving parts of the passes at the clubs. It agreed with Amora’s SAD to keep 25%. Until August 1, 2021, you could have kept an additional 45% in exchange for 250,000 euros and an additional 20% for 150,000 euros in the following year. It did not exercise these options, nor the last one, which expired a month ago, for another 10%.
Black Bulls complain, but Amora will take what he gets
The Black Bulls Academy claimed 80% of the amount that Amora received for Geny Catamo. However, according to FIFA rules, the division of passes between three clubs is prohibited. As such, SAD do Amora believes that there will have to be all the value, delivering, yes, compensation for training rights.
Amorim is an old admirer and asked for loans for the winger
Amorim is an admirer of Geny Catamo and wanted the athlete fit for the A team. He asked for him to be transferred to I Liga clubs.
