Botafogo idol, Joel Carli recently retired from the field, but did not abandon Glorioso to follow a new path. The former defender’s life path will be built at the club itself, as new Training and Transition Specialist. He will be a strategic and fundamental piece in the football department.
Carli left the field in June, but his leadership spirit will continue to accompany Botafogo’s youth teams. The Argentine has even received a lot of praise from his clubmates. He spoke about the new challenge with pride and, as usual, melted for Glorioso.
— I’m going through this transition and I’m happy to stay at home, in the country I love, and I’m really enjoying it. I was always interested in this part of the off-field even when I was still an athlete and this now makes it easier for me to adapt to the new role. It is essential for any club that professional football is nourished with youth players and Botafogo is on that path, they have improved a lot in their work, of course they still lack the perfection that the club needs and deserves. We are working very hard and very consciously, hopefully in the short term we will be able to increasingly nourish our professional team with grassroots athletes — he said.

In all, Carli played 190 games for Botafogo over two spells: the first between 2016 and 2020, and the second between 2021 and 2023. The defender is considered one of the great recent idols in the club’s history, having scored important goals, which won the title, in addition to exercising his leadership within and off the field.
