The Iranian Football Federation reacted to former footballer Carlos Xavier’s controversial words about Taremi, on Sporting TV, referring to the Porto player as “the Muslim” and criticizing how the Iranian striker played for FC Porto-Arouca.
“It is surprising and regrettable that these racist statements were made against a committed and loyal player, by a person who is himself a member of the world football family. The members of the Iranian national team condemn and emphasize these shameful statements,” it begins can be read in a statement from the Iranian federation.
“The international language of football is the language of kindness and, certainly, just as the absurd and obscene literature used in the words of the former football player against Taremi faced a backlash in this country, these statements are also rejected by all members of the great and international football family around the world”, it further reads.
