Fernando Diniz introduces the Seleção’s starting line-up in a closed training session this Sunday (10), but with an illustrious presence on the edge of the Alejandro Villanueva Stadium pitch. Hernán Barcos, Alianza Lima idol, took his son to visit and meet the Brazilian team players.
The Argentine, who has played for Cruzeiro, Palmeiras and Grêmio, received a t-shirt signed by all the Seleção players as a gift. He also presented the president of the CBF, Ednaldo Rodrigues, with his number 9 shirt from Alianza Lima.
In an interview right there in the Alejandro Villanueva stands, Barcos said he wanted to take his son to meet players he played against in Brazil. Neymar, Marquinhos and Casemiro are among them. The striker even joked that the only difference between today, at 39 years old, and his days in Brazil is that he “lacks hair”.
– Very handsome. There are people I worked with. Always be remembered and it’s beautiful to be recognized. Happy to be here, see the players. I met Neymar who we played against several times. He remembers me. I’m missing my hair, but I’m the same. But it’s really cool that my son can come and meet the great players that Brazil has – said Pirata.
Alianza idol
Barcos arrived at Alianza Lima in 2021 and became an idol of the club. The striker racked up goals in the three seasons he played. There were 11 goals in 29 games in 2021, 18 games in 41 in 2022, and 11 goals in 31 games in the current season. With the Argentine, Alianza is the current two-time Peruvian champion.
– Very happy. I arrived two and a half years ago. This is the third year. We became champions in 2022, 2023, and now we’re going for the third. We won the Apertura, now there is the Clausura, we want to end the year as champions – he said.
Barcos made history with three clubs in Brazil
Barcos made history with three clubs in Brazil. The first of them was Palmeiras. He was champion of the Copa do Brasil with Alviverde, but suffered relegation in 2012. With Grêmio, he spent two seasons. He scored 45 goals in 112 games and is the highest foreign goalscorer in the club’s history. The Argentine even returned to the country to play for Cruzeiro in 2018. And he was champion of the Copa do Brasil again.

Escalated selection
This Sunday, the press had access to just 30 minutes of training. During this period, the coach did not outline a lineup at any time. The starters did regenerative work, and the reserves entered minutes later, for reduced field work.
After that, Diniz did positioning work on the field. In it, the coach outlined the team, without the presence of journalists in the stands and on the edge of the field. The good news was Gabriel Magalhães. He was replaced by Ibañez in the game against Bolivia after experiencing a muscle problem, but trained normally this Thursday.
Brazil’s probable lineup: Ederson; Danilo, Marquinhos, Gabriel Magalhães and Renan Lodi; Casemiro, Bruno Guimarães, Raphinha and Rodrygo; Neymar and Richarlison.
The Seleção is coming off a 5-1 thrashing of Bolivia, in Fernando Diniz’s debut, last Friday (8), at Mangueirão. With the victory, Brazil leads the Qualifiers, due to goal difference. The team returns to the field next Tuesday (12), at 9:30 pm (Brasília time), when they face the Peruvian team in Lima, in the second round.
