Rogério Ceni is Bahia’s new coach. After the departure of Portuguese Renato Paiva, Tricolor de Aço acted quickly in the market and announced the arrival of the former goalkeeper, who had his first contact with the squad this Monday (11). On social media, the northeastern club released images and videos of the new commander and received high engagement from São Paulo fans, a team in which Ceni is an idol.
Revealed by São Paulo, Rogério Ceni spent his entire career at Tricolor. Upon retiring from the field, the former goalkeeper became a coach and managed the Morumbi team in 2017, returning four years later for a second spell. The club’s idol, ‘Myth’, as he is affectionately called by fans, received the affection of São Paulo after signing with Bahia.
“Take good care of him, Bahia” and “good luck, idol” were two of the most published messages by São Paulo fans after Ceni’s announcement by Tricolor de Aço. Check out some reactions:
I won’t deny it, I was jealous, hahahahah! Take good care of him and enjoy, he has everything to get Bahia out of this difficult situation and thinking about 2024 in big steps. It was like that at Fortaleza, it was like that at SPFC, at Flamengo, it wouldn’t have to be any different in Bahia. Good luck!

Which clubs has Rogério Ceni already commanded?
As mentioned, it was at São Paulo where Rogério Ceni began his coaching career. In the 2017 season, he led Tricolor do Morumbi in 35 matches and did not achieve the expected success. From January to July, he won just 14 victories and ended up being fired after a defeat to Flamengo, in the Brazilian Championship.
The second club of Ceni’s career was Fortaleza. At Tricolor do Pici, the former goalkeeper made history and won the affection and respect of the Ceará team’s fans. Between his two spells on the team, he accumulated remarkable victories and won four titles, including the 2018 Série B and the 2019 Copa do Nordeste.
Before returning to São Paulo in 2021, Rogério Ceni trained Cruzeiro and Flamengo. At Raposa, he had a quick stint and, due to relationship problems with a large part of the celestial cast, he was dismissed from his position just over a month after taking over. In Rio’s Rubro-Negro, the story was very different. He commanded Mais Querido from November 2020 to July 2021. During this period, he won the Brazilian Championship (2020) and the Brazilian Super Cup (2021).

What is Ceni’s ‘mission’ in Bahia?
Rogério Ceni signed a contract with Bahia until December 2025. Despite the fans’ excitement with the arrival of the former goalkeeper and eternal idol of São Paulo, the situation at Tricolor de Aço is not easy and the new commander will have a lot of work ahead of him. .
Bahia has 22 points won and occupies 16th place in the Brazilian Championship, one position above Santos, the first team in the relegation zone. In 22 rounds played, the team won only five victories and suffered 10 defeats. The club’s objective for the rest of the season is very clear: avoid relegation and remain among the elite of Brazilian football. Ceni is aware of this and has already started work on CT Evaristo de Macedo.
When does Ceni debut for Bahia?
This Monday (11), Rogério Ceni led his first training session as Bahia coach. Once registered in the CBF’s daily newsletter (BID), the coach will be able to make his debut in the team’s next match. Tricolor da Boa Terra returns to the field this Thursday (14), to face Coritiba, in the 23rd round of the Brasileirão. The ball starts at 8pm (Brasília time), at Couto Pereira, home of Alviverde.
