Cruzeiro continues to reinforce its women’s team and announced, this Wednesday (13), the hiring of coach Jonas Urias, who will lead Cabulosas from October. The 34-year-old coach had been leading the Brazilian under-20 women’s team since 2019, having left the position this year. Urias’ contract with the celestial club runs until the end of 2025.
Jonas Urias, who began his career as a coach at Centro Olímpico-SP, a traditional club for training athletes for women’s football, worked in all youth categories of the sport from under-13 onwards. For the Centro Olímpico main team, Urias was elected the best coach of the 2016 São Paulo Women’s Championship. In the same year, he won the Brazilian Women’s Under-20 Championship title.
In 2017 and 2018, Jonas began coaching the Sport Recife women’s team, having won the Bicampeonato Pernambucano and the Copa do Nordeste in 2018. He was also in charge of the team during the category’s Brasileirão dispute in both seasons, achieving maintenance in the first division in both.
The following year, Jonas Urias was invited to take over the U20 and U19 categories of the Brazilian Women’s Team. During the period, he won the South American Under-20 title with 100% success, in 2022, and was placed third in the Under-20 World Cup, the best result in the category in history.
Under Urias’ command, Brazil’s under-20 team had the best campaign in the first phase of the 2020 South American Championship until the competition was closed by Conmebol due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Jonas Urias has a bachelor’s degree in Sports from USP and has an A and B license from the CBF. The professional is also a FIFA mentor and Conmebol instructor, in addition to having the FIFA Women’s Football Expert certificate. The coach commented on the opportunity to lead Cruzeiro:
— Blue Nation, I want to say that I am very grateful and honored to be part of this great club, a heavenly club that has been taking care of women’s football like few others in our country. For me, it is a source of great joy to align my work and include it in a project as beautiful as Cruzeiro. In October, I begin my activities with the club and we already have the end of this season ahead of us with the Campeonato Mineiro. You can count on a lot of dedication on my part and dedication like no one else for these colors and this shirt — said Jonas.
The coach arrives at Cruzeiro in October, after aligning himself with the club’s women’s football board. While Jonas does not arrive in Belo Horizonte, the Cabulosas’ permanent technical assistant, Anne Barros, will lead the Cabulosas, on an interim basis, in the initial rounds of the Campeonato Mineiro.
