Discouraged after another stumble by the team in the Brazilian Championship, São Paulo fans ‘found’ a reason to smile again on the eve of the Copa do Brasil final. On the afternoon of this Friday (15), the Morumbi club informed that striker Brenner, revealed in Cotia and currently at Udinese-ITA, began a period of treatment at Tricolor’s REFFIS Plus after undergoing surgery. The news excited São Paulo residents on social media, who began to joke about the situation.

In the comments on the note published by São Paulo, several tricolor fans asked for Brenner to be included in the game on Sunday (17), against Flamengo, valid for the final of the Copa do Brasil. The São Paulo team’s request was accompanied by prints and images of the attacker scoring a goal against Rubro-Negro.

“Father of Flamengo”, “king of Maracanã”, “lock him up in CT”, “related for Sunday” were some of the most published comments by São Paulo fans. It is worth noting that Brenner is in the process of recovering from his injury, as he recently underwent surgery to correct a tear in the rectus femoris muscle in his right leg.

Brenner’s numbers for São Paulo

Created by São Paulo’s youth teams, Brenner was launched by coach Rogério Ceni and debuted for the club’s professionals in June 2017. The following year, he experienced ups and downs at Tricolor. After gaining Dorival Júnior’s trust and becoming an absolute starter, he ended up losing space with the arrival of Diego Aguirre.

In the 2019 season, Brenner was loaned to Fluminense. His stay at the Laranjeiras club was short, playing just six games and not scoring any goals. In 2020, the striker experienced his best moment wearing the São Paulo shirt. He played in 44 matches and found the net 22 times.

On February 5, 2021, the São Paulo creation was announced as a new reinforcement for FC Cicinnati, a club in the United States. Currently, as mentioned, he defends the colors of Udinese, an Italian team. In total, Brenner scored 24 goals and provided four assists in 56 matches for the Morumbi club.

Why the reputation as “father of Flamengo”?

Many tricolors asked for Brenner to be listed on Sunday (17) due to the attacker’s reputation as an executioner in duels against Flamengo. In 2020, the young man scored an important and decisive goal against Rubro-Negro which, to this day, is remembered fondly by São Paulo fans.

On November 11, 2020, Brenner scored the winning goal for São Paulo 2-1 over Flamengo, at Maracanã, in the first game of the round of 16 of the Copa do Brasil. In the move, the attacker took advantage of goalkeeper Hugo Souza’s bizarre mistake and guaranteed the Tricolor’s triumph.

Ten days earlier, Brenner had also shaken Flamengo’s nets. In the 4-1 defeat of São Paulo, also at Maracanã, in the Brasileirão, the number 30 left his penalty from the penalty spot.
