Palmeiras takes default from Qatari club for Giovani and could go to FIFA for payment

Palmeiras has not yet received any money from the sale of Giovani to Al Sadd, a club in Qatar. Alviverde sold 50% of the young striker’s rights for 9 million euros (around R$47 million, at the price at the time) in June this year. The information was initially released by UOL and confirmed by FNV.

The agreement between the clubs was for Al Sadd to deposit the first installment of 5 million euros in cash this Friday (15). As the payment was not made, Palmeiras contacted the Qataris, but has not yet received a response.

If there is no official position from the purchasing club, Palmeiras must sue FIFA for not receiving the money. The highest football entity could even punish Al Sadd for not complying with the agreement, but it is necessary to take into account that this entire process takes time, therefore, the alviverde may take a while to have the money in its coffers.

Giovani still hasn’t even managed to put up with Al-Sadd. This is because right on his debut, the attacker suffered a serious knee injury and is still in the medical department to recover. The expectation is that he will sit out the entire season.

Palmeiras itself has already been notified for non-payment

Peñarol sued FIFA after not receiving the last installment of full-back Piquerez’s payment for Palmeiras. The São Paulo club owes around R$4.4 million for the full-back.

The FNV found that Palmeiras approached Peñarol to seek an agreement to pay off this last transfer, but the Uruguayan club preferred to file the action with the entity.

The delay in payment is solely due to a cash flow issue. The club’s idea when proposing the agreement was just to equalize the payment within this current flow.

The parties now need to wait for FIFA’s procedures to proceed with the settlement, which the club will do as determined.
