During the seventh round of the under-17 Guanabara Cup, played this Saturday (16), goalkeeper Phillipe Gabriel made history. In the final minutes, the score was 1 x 0 for Flamengo, when Vasco’s goalkeeper ventured into the area on a corner and scored a header, taking the match to penalties. In the penalty shootout, Phillipe saved three and guaranteed one more point for the Vasco team.
The Carioca under-17 regulations provide that when matches end in a draw, both teams earn one point and whoever wins on penalties gets another.

– Happy for the goal. Very truncated game, we were behind, then we equalized. We didn’t stop fighting and at the end I went to the area, thank God I scored the goal, I was able to take the decision to penalties and I took three. Very happy with the team’s performance, we are all to be congratulated. We don’t stop running even with one down, we don’t lower our heads and that’s it. Let’s move on. This is Vasco, let’s go! – celebrated Phillipe Gabriel, after the match.
Phillipe’s goal and saves guaranteed Vasco second place in the Guanabara Cup, with 15 points, alongside Vasco and Botafogo, behind Flamengo, leader with 17 points.

The Vasco fans’ social networks were buzzing and there was excitement about the player. Jokingly, a fan told Phillipe to try out as a center forward due to his ability to head the ball. Another highlighted the similarity with Guillermo Ochoa, the historic goalkeeper for the Mexico national team, due to his long hair. But most of the comments only ask for one thing: take good care of the boy.
Do a test with him in shirt number 9. He has the swagger of a striker, he knows how to head the ball lol

Son of a player, passage in the Brazilian national team and almost 2 meters: the story of Vasco’s jewel
At 17 years old, the young goalkeeper stands at an impressive 1.96m and is treated as one of the main promises of Vasco’s youth teams. He was a member of the Brazilian team in their undefeated victory in that year’s South American Under-17 Championship, held in Ecuador.
Last year, the goalkeeper was on the field 18 times and won the Copa Rio, the Campeonato Carioca and the Recopa Carioca. He has been at Cruzmaltino since he was 11 years old, starting his career under the goalposts at a football school in Niterói. His performance last season made him sign his first professional contract with Vasco, signed until May 2025.
Phillipe Gabriel is the son of former defender Luiz Alberto, revealed by Flamengo and with spells at Internacional, Atlético-MG, Santos, Fluminense and Atlético-PR, in addition to the main Brazilian team and the international clubs Saint-Étienne, from France, Real Sociedad , from Spain, and Boca Juniors, from Argentina.
