Final of the Copa do Brasil records the highest income in the history of Brazilian football

São Paulo beat Flamengo 1-0 this Sunday (17), at Maracanã, in the first leg of the Copa do Brasil final. But there is another reason that makes the decision go down in history. The match broke – by a long, long shot – the record for box office revenue in Brazilian football.

In total, 67,350 people attended Maracanã, for an astronomical income of R$26,343,300. The value is almost double the previous mark, of R$ 14,176,146, recorded in the 2013 Libertadores final, between Atlético-MG and Olimpia, in which Galo was champion.

The value of the average ticket is also impressive. As there were 60,390 paying people, each ticket cost, on average, R$436.21.

Ticket prices sparked controversy

Not surprisingly, total income exceeded expectations. Flamengo’s board projected income of R$16 million for the final. In other words: R$10 million more went into the box office alone at the match.

Last year, Flamengo had an important mark in the final. Against Corinthians, Rubro-Negro pocketed R$ 11,177,332 in the return game, at Maracanã. Prices increased by more than 80% in relation to the 2022 decision. A ticket for the Eastern Sector, at the time, cost R$650 (full non-member) and currently costs R$1200 (full non-member).
