Independente, São Paulo’s main organized fans, released this Tuesday (19) on social media a new song to rock the stands in Morumbi and throughout Brazil. The song is inspired by “Whisky a Go Go”, by the band Roupa Nova, and contains excerpts with references to the Club World Cup won in 2005, with emphasis on Mineiro’s goal and Rogério Ceni’s historic save from a free kick taken by Steven Gerrard. Provocations to rivals Corinthians and Palmeiras are still sung in the chorus.

If the chorus of the original song is known by the excerpt “I asked: Do you wanna dance?”, the São Paulo version, composed by the member of Independente Japonês ABC and sung in the voice of Pê Santana, brings the well-known mockery of alvinegros and alviverdes . The Itaquera club is mentioned in the song for winning the 2000 World Cup without having won a Libertadores (they were invited because they were the national champions of the host country): “Without Libertadores, you can’t win a World Cup”. For the people of Palmeiras, there was a well-known mockery due to the lack of world titles. “Remind you, I’m a three-time world champion.”

Check out the full lyrics to São Paulo’s new song and listen to it in the voice of Pê Santana.

It was a party in 2005
Our victory against Liverpool
Goal from Mineiro, pass from Chulapa
And that foul that the Myth caught
Third time that energy
Three-time champion again in Japan
All night drinking beer
All the time being champion
Almost at the end of the party, the whole world understood
It’s the biggest in Brazil, everyone surrendered to Tricolor (sic)
And the shit cried again
And the tricolor sang to the customer
Remind you, I’m a three-time world champion
And the chicken cried again
And the tricolor reminded the other customer
Without Libertadores, you can’t win the World Cup
And the shit cried again
And the tricolor sang to the customer
Remind you, I’m a three-time world champion
And the chicken cried again
And the tricolor reminded another customer
Without Libertadores, you can’t win the World Cup (3x)
