The midfielder broke a goal drought the day before yesterday that had lasted almost four years, but promises to do more in the future. Signed from Lecce, the Danish player never stood out for his attacking numbers. However, Amorim intends to change that and encourages him to shoot from the front.
The mistake is broken! Morten Hjulmand went almost four years without celebrating a goal – more precisely since October 19, 2019, when he was still representing Admira Wacker – but he killed it the day before yesterday against Moreirense. A goal that paved the way for a quiet 3-0 victory and which, Rúben Amorim believes, could just be the first of several.
Although the player hired from Lecce has never been known in the past for his offensive ability, the Lions’ coach trusts in the quality of the Dane’s shot and gives him orders, you know THE GAME, to use that weapon whenever a good situation arises to target the goal. Hjulmand, remember, didn’t shoot once in the first two games he played for the green and whites, but in Braga he had already taken two shots and in one of them he put the ball in the back of the net. However, the move would be invalidated due to Pote’s offside. In the Danish team, against San Marino, he again shot from outside the area into the back of the goal and, again, saw the shot canceled due to an irregular position by a teammate. The day before yesterday, the midfielder threw a bomb at the post at 28″, not hiding his dismay, but at 55″ he shot Kewin, once again in a frontal zone from outside the area.
This time the party was in full swing and Hjulmand will continue to work towards scoring more goals, because this is a personal objective and that of the coach, who had no problems, moreover, in assuming it. “The consistency in the shot was the same as Braga’s but Pedro Gonçalves wasn’t getting in the way”, commented Amorim about the Dane’s goal. Afterwards, praising his performance, he continued: “He made a lot of tackles, he was intelligent. He will improve physically, he will increase his goal tally because he appears often and has that ability. This is no coincidence.”
Thanks for the support
One day after celebrating the first goal with a lion on his chest, Hjulmand used his Instagram account to remember the moment and thank him. “Great night in Alvalade! Very happy with the victory and for having scored my debut. Thanks to all Sporting fans for their unconditional support! Now it’s time to prepare for Thursday’s game… Let’s go, Sporting”, wrote the athlete 24 years old. Several players on the squad took the opportunity to praise Hjulmand in response to the latter’s publication, namely Iván Fresneda and Dário Essugo.
