Euroleague: Pole’s team still in the hole. Another defeat

Panathinaikos Athens is still in crisis. Mateusz Ponitka’s team suffered its fifth consecutive defeat in the Euroleague.

The Green Clovers this time lost to Bayern Munich, ranked behind them in the table before the game, 68:84. It was from the beginning a one-sided spectacle without great emotions. In the third quarter the lead of the Bavarians reached more than 20 points.

Ponitka spent 23 minutes on the floor in the Audi Dome. He scored 4 points with poor efficiency (2/9 from the game), had 2 rebounds, 3 interceptions and 2 losses. The most points for Panathinaikos were thrown by Dwayne Bacon, but as many as 16 of 18 in the fourth quarter, when the score was decided. Before that, he mostly missed.

Panathinaikos sits in penultimate 17th place in the middle of the regular round with a balance of 6-11, but loses three wins to the top eight, so participation in the play-offs is still possible. In Athens, they have faith in coach Dejan Radonjic. Before the match against Bayern, the media reported that he was given an unlimited budget for personnel changes after a long meeting with club authorities.

The Greek team will play its next match in the Euroleague on January 10. In the first game of the return round, it will take on Fenerbahce Istanbul at home, to which it succumbed in November in Turkey by as much as 77:107.

Ponitka averages 8.1 points, 5.5 rebounds and 2.6 assists in his Euroleague appearances so far. On average, he is on the court for 25.5 minutes.
