Marcos Lopes on the Move?

Marcos "Rony" LopesMarcos Lopes

Manchester City to Porto (loan)?

Manchester City starlet Marcos Lopes has wowed everyone this season with his numbered, yet impressive performances for Manchester City. Only 18 years of age, Rony Lopes (as he’s also called) managed four official appearances for Manchester City’s first team this season, and he didn’t just show up. He impressed. Named captain to City’s U21 squad for this past season, Lopes’s performances were impressive enough to warrant a place in and around City’s first team. Now, only 18 years old, it appears that Marcos Lopes, having already made a handful of appearances for City and debuted for the Portugal U-21 team, is ready for more first team action. Arsenal and Galatasaray are said to be interested in the attacking midfielder, but Manchester City would be foolish to let him go.

It is rumored that Manchester City have thought up a better alternative. City are currently interested in Porto’s Eliaquim Mangala and Fernando. The two players have indicated that they’d be open to a move to the Midlands, and a move doesn’t seem that far off. That is, if they can sweeten the pot enough for Porto. There is no shortage of money at Manchester City, but the club may be looking for additional methods of securing Mangala and Fernando. One bait is sending Marcos Lopes on loan to Porto for the season, a move that would surely be beneficial for both parties.

Ruben Vezo On His Way to Spain

Ruben Vezo - Vitoria Setubal

Ruben Vezo

Vitoria Setubal to Valencia

Vitoria Setubal central defender Ruben Vezo is in Spain currently, finalizing a move to La Liga giants Valencia. The fee is thought to be around 1.5 million euros, a figure greatly less than his 7.5 million euro release clause. Vezo is thought to be a replacement for Adil Rami, who will move on loan to Milan in January. With Valencia low on center-backs this season, the team has had to rely on Jeremy Mathieu, a left back, to fill in at center-back alongside club captain Ricardo Costa. Valencia were also touted to be interested in securing Tiago Ilori on loan from Liverpool, but their interest in Veze appears to be greater. Vezo is expected to sign on today for a contract which runs for four seasons.

Siena Negotiating With Dinamo Over Neto

Luis Neto - Siena

Luis Neto

Siena to Dinamo Kiev?

According to reports coming out of Portugal, Siena is currently negotiating with Dinamo Kiev over the transfer of Luis Neto. The central defender has been a bright spot in Siena’s dismal campaign. The club currently sits at the base of Serie A, and relegation looks likely. Clubs such as Juventus, Napoli, and Roma have been interested in Neto, and a move looks likely. A release clause is set at 16 million euros, but something as low as 6 million may be enough to pry him away from Siena. If he were to move to Dinamo Kiev, he would join up with fellow countryman Miguel Veloso.

Clubs Courting Hugo Almeida

Hugo Almeida - Besiktas

Hugo Almeida

Besiktas to Sevilla, Palermo, or Juventus?

Multiple clubs are chasing Besiktas striker Hugo Almeida, according to reports coming out of Portugal. Though he doesn’t seem interested in a move away, clubs such as Sevilla, Palermo, and now Juventus are all reportedly chasing the striker. One source suggests that Palermo is willing to pay as much as seven million euros for Almeida. Hugo is reportedly happy at the Turkish club at the moment, and is enjoying a good season, having scored eight goals in only ten appearances thus far.

Nani to Arsenal?

Nani

Nani

Manchester United to Arsenal?

Reports coming out of England recently have suggested that Manchester United outcast Nani could be on his way to Arsenal. It is common knowledge that Nani is on the way out of Manchester United, after yet another row with head coach Sir Alex Ferguson. The winger has been in bad form this season, but one must not forget his form last season. When in form, few will argue that Nani is one of the foremost wingers in the world. But being in form is a problem for Nani. In the last two seasons combined, the winger managed 28 assists in the Premier League alone. This season has not been so fortunate. Sir Alex Ferguson seems to be fed up with the winger once-and-for-all. News of spats between the two are not new, but recently, Ferguson has signaled that Nani’s time at Old Trafford may be up. Hearing this, a host of clubs were, and are, rumored to be tracking the winger. Among these are Juventus, Inter, Porto, Benfica, and now Arsenal. For articles concerning these rumors, visit our Transfer Rumors section.

Arsenal may be the most likely deal to go through as of right now. Soon after the Arsenal rumor hit the press, Sir Alex Ferguson hinted that he may be interested in acquiring the services of Theo Walcott, of Arsenal. Could a swap be in the pipeline? Surely, if these rumors are true, a swap would be the smartest move for both clubs. Nani could work wonders at The Emirates, while Walcott could fill the role as backup to Ashley Young and Valencia at United. The players are very similar. The main difference between the two is that Walcott is quicker, while Nani has a penchant for crossing and producing wonderful goals.

Roma Attempts to Loan Braga Defender

Nuno Andre Coelho

Braga to Roma (Loan)?

AS Roma has made an official attempt to loan Nuno Andre Coelho in January. Roma’s defensive options are slim, and they currently have the worst defensive record in the league, despite sitting at seventh in Serie A. Now, in an attempt to bolster its defense, Roma has turned to long-term target Nuno Andre Coelho. Coelho has enjoyed a recent run of form after an injury to Douglao granted him much-needed playing time. His performances have merited being pre-drafted for Portugal’s upcoming friendly against Gabon, where he may very likely debut. The deal Roma proposed is a loan beginning in January and lasting to the end of the season, with an option to buy. His release clause is set at 12 million euros, and Braga will not let him go for much less than that.

Coentrao to be Involved in Bale Swap Deal

Fabio Coentrao – Real Madrid to Tottenham?

News has come out recently that Real Madrid have made Tottenham winger Gareth Bale their number one target for this upcoming transfer window. Bale has shown his credentials as one of the finest young wingers in the game at the moment, and Real hope to add him to their squad. In order to make the deal more attainable, according to reports, Real Madrid are prepared to include Fabio Coentrao in the deal. So, Coentrao would move to Tottenham, while Bale would move the opposite direction to Real Madrid. Coentrao would likely not find holding down a starting position very hard. Regardless of whether this move goes through, it is looking more likely every day that Fabio Coentrao will not be a Real Madrid player next season.

Coentrao to Re-Join Benfica?

Fabio Coentrao

Real Madrid to Benfica?

Reports coming out of Portugal suggest that Fabio Coentrao may be poised for a shock move back to Portugal. The left-back made the move from Benfica to Real Madrid for 30 million euros at the beginning of last season, but has failed to hold down a regular spot. Despite a superb showing at Euro 2012, Coentrao has found playing time hard to come by, especially due to Marcelo’s solid performances. Now, Benfica are reportedly interested in buying back the defender.

Opinion: Will Tottenham Swoop for Moutinho?

News came out today that Croatian midfielder Luka Modric had completed Tottenham to Real Madrid for a staggering 33 million euros. This move thins out what was an already thick midfield in regards to talent. On Tottenham’s roster are the likes of Tom Huddlestone, Rafael Van der Vaart, Gylfi Sigurdsson, Jake Livermore, Scott Parker, and Sandro, all of whom are, or have been, regular internationals. Though it appears that more spending in the midfield may not be necessary, it appears that it will nevertheless happen.

All summer, Tottenham have been linked with a host of midfielders, in response to the almost imminent departure of star man Modric. One such player is Porto’s Joao Moutinho. Currently a mainstay of the Porto team, Moutinho dictates the play on the pitch. When he plays, Porto looks noticeably better. When he is benched, the team suffers. His role is that of a box-to-box midfielder. Gifted with loads of stamina, Moutinho will bounce around on the pitch, winning balls, and distributing them out. He’s not simply a tough player, though. At Porto, Moutinho has formed a reputation for being able to play a killer ball through the middle or out to the wings. This is much the same as Luka Modric at Tottenham. The two are similar in their basic strengths, but the are some minor differences (Modric is a better passer, Moutinho is scrappier). The gist of all of this is that Joao Moutinho and Luka Modric are similar players. Keep that in mind.

Joao Moutinho was born and raised a Sporting Lisbon player. He joined the Under-14 Sporting Lisbon team in 1999, aged just 13. He stayed at the club all the way until 2010, when Porto controversially purchased him. He, along with Miguel Veloso, was the crown jewel of the club, as he and Veloso’s development was because of the team’s youth setup. Moutinho was made vice-captain at age 19, and soon after, was named captain. It seemed like he would be a mainstay at Sporting for years to come. That was not to be the case however. An Andre Villas-Boas-led Porto bought him at the beginning of the 2010-2011 season, and he has never looked back. This move was a curious one, as Moutinho was arguably in the darkest part of his career at the time of his move to Porto. He had just been excluded from the Portuguese team at the World Cup, and had just come off a sub-par year with Sporting. On top of that, he was moving to a club in the midst of a change of managers; from one extremely experienced manager to an unproven rookie. Porto, it should also be said, had only achieved third place in the league the season before. Because of all of this, his move to Porto was a strange one, but it proved to be extremely fruitful.

It now appears that Moutinho may be reunited with Andre Villas-Boas at Tottenham. Last season, when Villas-Boas was the Chelsea boss, there was speculation that he would move for Moutinho. It’s no secret that Villas-Boas is a fan of Moutinho, but with the coach also weighing up moves for French international Yann M’Vila, Dutch international Ibrahim Afellay, Shakhtar star Willian, and American international Clint Dempsey, will a move for Moutinho actually happen?

Tijane Reis Goes on Trial at Stoke City

Tijane Reis – Chaves to Stoke City?

Tijane Reis, of Chaves, has gone on trial with English Premier League side Stoke City. Stoke manager Tony Pulis is evidently keen to add a winger to his squad, and Tijane is high on his list. Tijane has impressed for the third division side Chaves, enough to earn a call-up to the Portugal Under-21 team. Not many players from the third division earn a call-up to the U-21 team, so the fact that he did speaks wonders to his skill.
