Incident took place in the first half of Lille’s victory over Clermont.
Lille was, this Wednesday, the Stade Gabriel-Montpied ‘pull’ a victory, by 2-0, in a match that was marked by moments of great tension, involving both coaches, even before the half-time whistle.
Paulo Fonseca and Pascal Gastien exchanged ‘pennants’ for many minutes, sitting on their respective benches. Already at 23 minutes, both ‘lost their heads’, when a foul committed by Jose Fonte on Elbasan Rashani.
The French accused the Portuguese of instigating their own players, to which he responded, shouting, repeatedly and in English, the phrase “Don’t speak with me” (“Don’t talk to me”, in the language of Camões), according to the French television station RMC Sport.
The referee, François Letexier, even had to intervene to calm tempers, threatening to show a yellow card to each, which ultimately did not happen. After the final whistle, Clermont’s helmsman refused to elaborate on the case.
“When the game was over, I went to the coach, and it’s over. There are no problems (…). I don’t want to talk much about Lille…. Then the president will get upset. But I congratulated them anyway. I told the coach that they are a very good team,” he said.
