Formula 1, Ferrari announces Vasseur team principal: “I am here to achieve results”

Vasseur has more than 25 years’ experience in motor racing, starting with junior formulas and in the last decade in Formula 1

“We are delighted to welcome Fred Vasseur to Ferrari as our Team Principal,” said Ferrari CEO Benedetto Vigna this morning.

Fred Vasseur will join Scuderia Ferrari on January 9 as Team Principal and General Manager, taking Mattia Binotto’s place. Vasseur has more than 25 years’ experience in motor racing, starting in junior formulas and for the past decade in Formula 1. During this time, he has also been recognized for his success in promoting talented drivers, winning the GP2 series in both 2005 (Nico Rosberg) and 2006 (Lewis Hamilton).

Vasseur most recently served as ceo and Team Principal of Sauber Motorsport (currently Alfa Romeo F1 Team), which he has held since 2017. Previously, in 2016, he was Team Principal of the Renault F1 Team.

“Throughout his career he has successfully combined his technical strengths,” Vigna continued during the presentation, “thanks to his experience as an engineer, with a constant ability to stimulate the best in his drivers and teams. This approach and his leadership are what we need to grow Ferrari with renewed energy.”
