President of FC Porto signs yet another editorial for Dragões magazine

Pinto da Costa, president of FC Porto, in yet another editorial in Dragões magazine, states that « the usual enemies » of the dragons « have already launched the usual attacks » to try to destabilize the blue and white emblem.

« There are things that never change. (…) They know that they cannot interfere in the decisions of our structure and in the performance of our team, so they try to condition the environment that surrounds them. The objective is always the same: to divide the supporters from FC Porto. And the means used do not vary either: they resort to lying and manipulation », it starts by reading.

« In recent weeks, they have lied and manipulated reality on subjects as diverse as our team’s sporting performance – which in their eyes is always much worse than what you see on the pitch -, our intervention in the transfer market – they allege whenever we don’t have the ability to buy and sell well – or violence in sport – it’s always FC Porto’s fault, even if the murders and rapes are committed by members of other clubs », continues the maximum leader of the dragons, who later points to the results in the championship and to the sale of Otávio, « whom a short time ago the enemies guaranteed that he would leave at zero cost ».

« Don’t tear us apart

There are things that never change. 2023/24 has barely begun, but our usual enemies, those who write in some newspapers and make comments on Lisbon television, have already launched the usual attacks to try to destabilize us. They know that they cannot interfere in our structure’s decisions and in our team’s performance, so they try to condition the environment that surrounds them. The objective is always the same: to separate FC Porto supporters. And the means used do not vary either: they resort to lies and manipulation.

In the last few weeks, they have lied and manipulated reality on subjects as diverse as our team’s sporting performance – which in their eyes is always much worse than what you see on the field -, our intervention in the transfer market – they always claim that we don’t have the capacity to buy and sell well – or violence in sport – is always FC Porto’s fault, even if the murders and rapes are committed by members of other clubs.

If we take the lens away from the Lisbon press and look at reality, we see different scenarios. FC Porto started with an unfortunate result in the Super Cup – despite having been far superior to the opponent for a good part of the time – and then added two victories in the first two rounds. Our squad was reinforced with three players who are still young, but who already show indisputable qualities that will naturally be improved by Sérgio Conceição. Otávio, whom we all loved very much and who not long ago our enemies guaranteed that he would leave at zero cost, was transferred for a record fee. And there is no record of any relevant situation of violence, either on the field or involving our supporters, to the shame of the parrots that try to stick the labels that – they do – have clinging to their skin.

It is for these reasons and for being aware of the quality with which this house works that I believe we are on the right track to achieve the ambitious goals with which we face the season. We want to end up with more trophies in the museum than are already there.

PS: This month we left Eng.º Diogo Paiva Brandão, with whom I had the pleasure of working for more than 20 years. He left too soon, but he could be proud of having made great contributions to the development of the club he loved all his life. »
