Caíque debuted with Grêmio’s shirt in the 2-0 victory over Cuiabá, last Sunday (3), at the Arena, for the 22nd round of the Brazilian Championship. Substitute for Gabriel Grando, who was suspended, the 26-year-old goalkeeper had a safe performance during almost the entire game, leaving the field without being leaked.

But more than Caíque’s performance itself, what resonated was his emotion for his debut. In a photo that went viral on social networks, shared by the athlete himself, he appears crying during the execution of the national anthem before the start of the match.

Trajectory marked by ups and downs

The emotion is explained by the trajectory of the cat black, as it is nicknamed. After emerging as a great promise at Vitória, being compared to Dida, Caíque experienced ups and downs. After failures in the Bahian team, he rotated through some clubs until he reached Ypiranga, from Série C of the Brazilian Championship. The outstanding performance in the Erechim team earlier this year earned him the opportunity at Grêmio.

“I just have to thank God for everything he’s done for me. Today I am living His supernatural. The tears in my eyes, which you can see in this image, are of happiness and gratitude to my God for everything I went through to get here. Worth it! explained Caíque in a post on Twitter.

Goalkeeper praises Grêmio

In an interview in the mixed zone of the Arena, right after the match, Caíque also praised Grêmio. Something he had already done at the presentation press conference, in which he did not hide his happiness at wearing the tricolor shirt.

— This shirt is heavy. It weighs a lot. It’s Grêmio, you know? I am very happy, I am very grateful to God for the opportunity to be here, to debut at home. With a victory, even better – celebrated the goalkeeper.

O cat black also commented on the next steps after the three points against Cuiabá. With the stop for Date FIFA, Grêmio will only return to the field on the 14th, against RB Bragantino.

— Rest, enjoy the family. Then come back with everything for the marathon of games that we are going to have to put Grêmio in Libertadores – he projected.
