Almost no one from Flamengo spoke at the exit of the draw of the home field for the final of the Copa do Brasil. Everton Ribeiro, Marcos Braz, Bruno Spindel and Jorge Sampaoli left the venue in silence, and Filipe Luís, the only one to speak, commented that he could not reach other vehicles other than FlaTV. President Rodolfo Landim, however, broke protocol.
The representative had a meeting at the CBF headquarters, right after the draw, but he went down and spoke quickly with the press. Questioned about the permanence of Jorge Sampaoli, who is under pressure due to poor results at the club, Landim confirmed that the coach will stay until the final of the Copa do Brasil. The evaluation will only take place at the end of the season.
– Is obvious. We are in the middle of a season and with two decisions. Everyone does an evaluation at the end of the year,” she said.
Flamengo will decide the title at Morumbi
As if the bad moment was not enough, Flamengo still had bad news in the draw: the decision of the Copa do Brasil will be in Morumbi. The first leg, on September 17, will take place at Maracanã, while Rubro-Negro and Tricolor will decide the title a week later, in São Paulo.
This is the fourth time that Flamengo has disputed the decision of the Copa do Brasil away from home. Rubro-Negro won its first title, over Goiás, in Serra Dourada, but lost the last two finals it played away from its domains. Interestingly, both were against Cruzeiro, in 2003 and 2017.
Before the decision, Flamengo will still have two commitments for the Brazilian Championship. The first is this weekend, when he faces leader Botafogo, at Nilton Santos. The distance between the teams is 15 points, that is, five rounds in which the Rubro-Negro must win, and the rival must be defeated.
