Luís Godinho, from the Évora Football Association, will direct a game between the « eagles » and « dragons » for the third time, after refereeing two classics for the I Liga, in 2020/21, which ended in a 1-1 draw at Estádio do Dragão, and in 2021/22, a 1-0 triumph against FC Porto, which allowed the « dragons » to win the national title at Estádio da Luz.
Benfica, national champion, and FC Porto, winner of the Portuguese Cup, will dispute the 45th edition of the Super Cup on Wednesday, at 20:45, at the Estádio Municipal de Aveiro.
This will be the second time that the native of São Paulo will referee a Super Cup match, having directed the clash between FC Porto and Desportivo das Aves in 2018, which the Porto players won 3-1, also in Aveiro.
The 37-year-old referee, international since 2017, will officiate for the third time in his career a game between « eagles » and « dragões », after refereeing two classics for the I Liga, one in Porto and another in Lisbon.
In 2020/21, he managed a match at Estádio do Dragão, which ended in a 1-1 draw, with goals from Marega, for the ‘dragons’, and Grimaldo, for the ‘eagles’, on January 15, 2021.
In the following season, in 2021/22, he refereed the derby that would end up deciding the championship, the 33rd and penultimate round, on May 7, 2022, in which FC Porto won 1-0 at Estádio da Luz, thanks to to a goal from lateral Zaidu at 90+4 minutes.
In addition to these two matches, Godinho took charge of three other derbies, namely two derbies between Benfica and Sporting, both at Estádio da Luz and in the 2018/19 season – one for the I Liga (1-1) and another for the first leg of the semi-finals of the Portuguese Cup (2-1) -, in addition to a Sporting-FC Porto (2-2) in the 2020/21 edition of the championship.
