Andreas Schicker, sporting director of Austrian side Sturm Graz, remembers watching a Sporting game in 1995, against Rapid Vienna.
Sporting is Sturm Graz’s next opponent and Andreas Schicker, the Austrians’ sporting director, recalled the first contact he had with the Portuguese team. It was in a game in 1995, against Rapid Vienna, that the manager watched on a VHS cassette.
« Sporting is on my first VHS tape, which I watched non-stop when I was 10 years old. A Rapid Vienna-Sporting, in 1995 (2nd round of the Cup Winners’ Cup). It was 4-2 in the tie, after extra time. That’s when I met the Sporting », he recalled, speaking to APA.
« They always have talented players in their training, which we then see in a top league. Everything is much bigger there than here », he further stated.
Andreas Schicker warned, however, that if Sturm Graz play « aggressively, it could become difficult for Sporting ».
Sturm Graz-Sporting, from the first round of the Europa League group stage, will play at 8pm on Thursday.
