Central is on Stuttgart’s list and the midfielder is a target for Celtic. Eagles give the green light to concessions
Benfica’s planning includes the transfer of Tomás Araújo and Paulo Bernardo, with the two players trained in Seixal open to pursuing their careers outside Portugal, although several clubs in national football have already expressed an interest in receiving them. At this stage, on the trail of the two youngsters are the Germans from Stuttgart and the Scots from Celtic, respectively.
The 21-year-old centre-back could even stay in the squad, but João Victor’s permanence would make it more difficult for him to add minutes. Hence, Benfica officials admitted to handing over Tomás Araújo, following the example of what happened last season to Gil Vicente, with a view to making it easier to close a deal. This is because the number 44 jersey has a salary substantially lower than that earned by the Brazilian, even after having renewed, last month, until 2028 and having risen in the salary hierarchy.
According to news released on Tuesday by the magazine « Kicker », Tomás Araújo has been followed with particular attention by Stuttgart and the leaders of Gil Dias’ club, formerly of Benfica, are seeking to bridge the sale, for 20 million euros, of Mavropanos to West Ham. However, they do not intend to go crazy, hence the expectation of settling a loan.
Paulo Bernardo also has interested parties outside Portugal. The Scots from Celtic, who have already fished Jota in Luz, will have the 21-year-old midfielder, who was loaned last season to Paços de Ferreira, referenced some time ago and have already started contacts to receive him, possibly on a loan with an option to buy, as happened with the extreme in 2021/22.
