The duel between Vasco and Botafogo is known as ‘Clássico da Amizade’ and, apparently, the nickname is not for nothing. This weekend, the teams enter the field for the 21st round of the Brazilian Championship. While Glorioso faces Bahia, Cruzmaltino will measure forces against Palmeiras. Out of mutual interest, the fans of both teams from Rio de Janeiro projected a kind of union.

On social networks, fans of Vasco and Botafogo adopted the so-called “União VasFogo”. The reason? Precisely the commitments of the teams over the weekend. Alvinegro, who leads the Brasileirão, saw second-placed Palmeiras reduce their advantage to the top of the table in the 20th round. Therefore, Botafoguenses have reinforced the choir for a Cruzmaltina victory against Alviverde.

Vasco, in turn, fights game by game to get rid of the relegation zone. Currently in 18th place, Gigante da Colina’s goal in the round is to reduce the points difference in relation to Bahia, the first team outside the danger region. For this, he has a stumble by the Tricolor de Aço at Nilton Santos, against Botafogo.

Botafogo campaign in the Brasileirão

Botafogo leads the Brazilian Championship in isolation and has been making a historic campaign so far. With an incredible 48 points conquered in 20 rounds, Glorioso has an 80% advantage in the competition. There are 15 wins, three draws and only two defeats. General Severiano’s club has the second best attack in the competition, with 35 goals scored, and the best defense among the 20 teams, with just 11 goals conceded.

It is worth mentioning that in addition to the Brasileirão, Botafogo is still alive in the Copa Sudamericana dispute. In the first leg of the quarterfinals, coach Bruno Lage’s team was 1-1 against Defensa y Justicia, at Nilton Santos. The return match takes place in Argentina and is scheduled for next Wednesday (30), at 7 pm (Brasília time).

Vasco campaign in the Brasileirão

Very different from Botafogo, Vasco has a terrible campaign in the Brasileirão. With 16 points won, Gigante da Colina had four wins, four draws and suffered 11 defeats in 19 matches played. Since the arrival of coach Ramón Díaz, Cruzmaltino has been on the rise and has achieved good results in recent commitments. However, to avoid their fifth relegation in history, the São Januário club will need more than that.

The Campeonato Brasileiro is the only tournament left for Vasco until the end of the season. Without continental competitions on its calendar, Cruzmaltino was eliminated early from the Copa do Brasil. Still in the second phase, Gigante da Colina lost on penalties to ABC and ended up saying goodbye to the national knockout.
