Benfica to Roma?
Following his impressive performances for Portugal in the U-20 World Cup, Nelson Oliveira is at the end of some unsurprising interest from one of the finest European teams. Roma is pondering making a bid for the forward, who won the silver boot at the recent U-20 World Cup. Benfica coach Jorge Jesus has stated that he will leave the striker in the first team this season, along with Luis Martins and Mika, but Roma are lurking. Roma’s sporting director is reportedly quite fond of the striker, and a move may happen in the near future.
Due to the recent injury of Bebe, Besiktas are now looking at Braga’s young winger, Pizzi, as his replacement. Bebe joined Besiktas on loan from Manchester United, where he had failed to make the grade, but a recent injury has ruled him out for six months. Besiktas now move their attention to Pizzi, who shone for Pacos Ferreira last season. Pizzi is now with Braga’s first team, with a starting spot likely. According to reports in Portugal, the required fee is around 5 million euros. If the move does materialize, Pizzi will join up with fellow Portuguese players Simao, Bebe, Hugo Almeida, and Manuel Fernandes.
According to reports coming out of Portugal, Real Madrid boss Jose Mourinho is interested in acquiring Pedro Mendes’s services. This Pedro Mendes is not the one that played for Portugal in last summer’s World Cup. This Pedro Mendes currently plays for Sporting Lisbon, after returning from his loan last season to Servette. According to the reports, Jose Mourinho sees immense potential in the 20 year-old. Standing at 1.84 meters, he is the perfect size for a central defender. Mourinho is interested in snapping him up and putting him in Madrid’s B team for further development. Mourinho is obviously very interested in the player, but as to whether the move will be a loan or a permanent one remains to be seen.
Greek Superleague team, Aris, are interested in taking Parma’s young midfielder, Danilo Pereira, out on loan for the remainder of the season. Pereira has understandable found playing time hard to come by at Parma, sue to his young age, so a loan move to Aris may look attractive to him. Pereira made the move from Benfica to Parma in the summer, following his impressive performances for Portugal at the UEFA U-19 Championship.
Bruno Gama is one of the players on Sporting Lisbon’s wish-list this winter, according to reports coming out of Portugal. Sporting are in need of some wingers, with Izmailov, Vukcevic, Salomao, Valdes, and Yannick the players able to play on the wing. Izmailov is currently injured, Valdes is more of a creative central midfielder, and Yannick is more a striker. That leaves Vukcevic and Salomao, the latter of which has been in good form as of late. Gama was unaware of the interest, learning it from the newspapers. “I understand the interest from the newspapers, but it’s always good to see my name associated with big clubs,” the winger said.
Former Argentina coach Diego Maradona is now apparently interested in coaching the Portuguese National Team. Maradona is excited at the prospect of coaching Ronaldo and company. Alejandro Mancuso, one of Maradona’s former assistants, says “It’s true. Diego and I already talked about it, is a project that would please us greatly. He has the will and the total availability, but so far he has not been contacted.” Hmmmm….. I wonder why. Probably because he is a horrible coach. I doubt this move will amount to anything.
