PortugalFutbol.net is pleased to introduce Alex Santos as the newest member of our writing team. For his biography, visit our “About Us” page. Here’s his letter of introduction:
My name is Alex Santos and it is a pleasure to be a new addition to PortugalFutbol’s team to be able to express my passion for the ever-growing Portuguese football.
Born in England to a Portuguese family, Portuguese football has always been in the family and I have had the pleasure to watch both styles of English and Portuguese to know why it’s so special for us Portuguese.
Not the biggest of countries but the passion shown in Portugal, from the biggest to smallest teams is what football is really about. The celebrations of all the Benfica fans as they finally took back the title, all those Benfiquestas in the marques and that for me, is what football is all about.
PortugalFutbol.net is pleased to announce that Igor Henriques has joined the site’s writing team. Here’s his introduction:
My name is Igor Henriques and I am very pleased to be the latest addition to PortugalFutbol.net team of writers. I look forward to being able to express passionately my views on the Portuguese national team and also the Portuguese league which is becoming one of the top leagues in the world.
As a Portuguese born citizen, I often tell people in my adopted home of Toronto, Canada that soccer runs through the veins of every Portuguese citizen both home and abroad, it is indeed part of our heritage and culture. To historic figures like the great Eusebio and Chalena to modern day titans like Luis Figo and Cristiano Ronaldo, Portuguese soccer has it’s share of heroes.
While a small country in terms of population size compared to some of Europe and Latin America’s elite, the Portuguese way of soccer with it’s flair and grace has won over many pundits over the years and made me a believer that one day a major world trophy at the senior international level will grace the streets of Portugal.
As for who I think will lead us there, I offer the quote below:
“Please don’t call me arrogant, but I’m European champion and I think I’m a special one”– Jose Mourinho
PortugalFutbol.net is pleased to introduce the newest member of our writing team, George Vieira! Here’s his introduction:
Greetings and salutations everyone!
My name is George Vieira and I’m your newest writer here on PortugalFutbol.net, a website that’s quickly becoming a go-to place for English language futebol coverage worldwide. Be it by covering the Portuguese National Team, Portugal’s youth teams, the Primeira Liga, Champions League, Europa League, or Portuguese talents making a mark all over the world, I’ll be using the journalistic skills acquired in university to educate and entertain you whenever possible.
Canadian born and raised, with familial roots taking me back to the Azorean island of Sao Miguel, sport, and in particular, soccer, has always played an important part in my life. I grew up with both my parents and grandparents under the same roof and it is from them that I learned to adore the beautiful game.
When it comes to a Selecao das Quinas, I fell in love the moment Luis Figo bulged the twine from a 30 yard strike against England at Euro 2000. That goal inspired a 3-2 comeback victory the likes of which I haven’t seen from Portugal ever since. And, it made me a die-hard supporter for life.
Over on the club side of things, my grandfather was devoted to Benfica and my father was loyal to Sporting, so, I chose to not pick sides and follow Porto instead. It turned out to be quite the serendipitous decision as Porto went on to win the UEFA Cup that year, and, the following season, went on to win the Champions League under this guy named Jose Mourinho.
I’m ecstatic to now be a part of a great team of writers and hope to not only share my unique perspective on the game, but, share my passion as well. I look forward to interacting with all of you both on site and off site, and hope to learn from everyone involved in the project. Thanks again to Sam for including me.
