Benfica to Valencia (loan)
Benfica’s young right-back Joao Cancelo has joined La Liga side Valencia on a season-long loan from Benfica, the Spanish club have announced. Cancelo is already training with the team and will be presented later today. It is believed that the arrival of Cancelo will spell the end of Joao Pereira’s time at Valencia, with the veteran right-back reportedly on the out.
This move comes after a summer of speculation about Joao Cancelo’s future. Pacos Ferreira were reportedly very close to securing a loan deal earlier in the summer, but that deal fell through. More recently, it was announced that Meriton Capital Limited, Valencia’s soon-to-be owner Peter Lim’s company, purchased the rights to Cancelo as well as Bernardo Silva and Ivan Cavaleiro. With little reported on this supposed purchase, it is difficult to determine its legitimacy. But if it is true, it comes as little surprise, as Peter Lim recently purchased the rights to two other Benfica players, Andre Gomes and Rodrigo.
The Spanish club’s new coach, Nuno Espirito Santo, is known from his time coaching Rio Ave to have strong ties to Portuguese super-agent Jorge Mendes. Mendes has brokered deals for players such as David Luis, Cristiano Ronaldo, and Angel Di Maria in the past, and much of Nuno’s Rio Ave side were represented by Mendes’ agency, Gestifute. Andre Gomes, Rodrigo, Bernardo Silva, Joao Cancelo, and Ivan Cavaleiro are all represented by Mendes, which will guarantee them big moves in the future, but not necessarily playing time.
It is official. Hugo Almeida will ply his trade in Turkey at Besiktas. Almeida has been surrounded with speculation regarding his future. Real Madrid, Juventus, Besiktas, and Lazio have all stated their interest, but in the end, Besiktas have come out victorious. Besiktas have announced the signings of Manuel Fernandes, and Simao, all of whom will join Quaresma in the Turkish capital. Almeida signed a 3 and a half year contract, for a fee estimated around 2-3 million euros.
Besiktas have announced the signing of Portuguese winger, Simao, from Atletico Madrid. There has been speculation over Simao’s future at Atletico, and Besiktas have silenced that with a 900,000 Euro deal. He will join on a two-and-a-half year deal, which will keep him at the club through the 2012-2013 season. Simao joined Atletico from Benfica in 2007, and has enjoyed great amounts of success at the Spanish team, easily being one of their most consistent performers. Simao has a Europa League and a UEFA Super Cup to his name, so he will now join fellow Portuguese Quaresma at the Turkish capital. No more news has come out of the Manuel Fernandes deal to Besiktas. Although he has passed his medical, it has not officially been announced. Simao will no-doubt keep up his level of performance from Atletico, and since the Turkish league is less competitive than the Spanish league, his level of performance may be raised.
Its official, Tiago is turning his career around……..Maybe. We’ll see about that, but the Portuguese international has been loaned by Juventus to Atletico. I think tha this will be a very constructive move for Tiago, as he can help them combat the ongoing relegation worries. Also, he will be playing alongside fellow Sellecao, Simao. For some time now, it has become obvious that either the Italian League or Juventus are not a good place for Tiago. This year, he came in third, if I remember correctly, in the “Worst Italian Player” standings. So overall, I hope that this will be a good move for him, if anything to get his confidence back.
