Why Premier League Clubs Should Target Jackson Martinez

Jackson Martinez - PortoJackson Martinez is a Colombian striker currently plying his trade in the Portuguese Primeira Liga with FC Porto and has been prolific ever since his arrival in 2012. In his first season at Porto, Jackson managed 31 goals in 40 appearances across 4 competitions, scoring 26 of them in the Liga, helping Porto to yet another league title. In his second season, he managed 29 goals in 51 appearances, however, he was unable to prevent a rather unsuccessful season for Porto as both Lisbon clubs finished ahead of them in the Liga table and they had to settle for a third-place finish and a play-off to reach the group stages of the 2014/15 Champions League. As for this season, he has already managed to rack up more than 20 goals. A clinical, reliable finisher if ever there was one. Continue reading

Can Sporting win the Europa League?

Rui Patricio

Sporting will need their best from Patricio if they have any hope of advancing.

Much was said about Sporting’s Champions League campaign and how well they played against the 3 other sides in their group. Home and away against Maribor, Chelsea and Schalke they performed very well and gave a fantastic account of themselves in each game. Their games were very entertaining, too, as you weren’t far away from a bundle of goals and even some controversy. They really were a breath of fresh air in the group stages of the Champions League and they showed that they can perform on the big stage. Continue reading

Now, nearly two years on from that aforementioned speculation, Pereira is a free agent set for discussions with Glaziers boss Steve Parish after the sacking of Neil Warnock following a 3-1 defeat to Southampton as Selhurst Park. Continue reading

Julen Lopetegui’s Porto side have been dominant in Europe so far this season.

It was an interesting week in Portuguese Football with the Big 3 winning and Guimaraes keeping their top of the table form going. Porto and Sporting both won handily in their matches, Porto putting 5 goals past Rio Ave in the second half at the Dragao to win 5-0. Marco Silva’s Sporting came on with 2 strikers in their starting line-up and it paid dividends as they scored all the goals running out to a 3-0 victory at home to Setubal. Benfica travelled to Academica and two first half goals from Gaitan & Luisao made it an easy trip keeping them 3 points ahead of Porto in the Premeira League Table. There was also many a headline made by the Tres Grandes in the English press, with news and transfer rumours so let’s round-up the week’s news. Continue reading
