According to reports coming out of Portugal for some time, Paços Ferreira midfielder Sérgio Oliveira is set to return to Porto, after a two-season stay in Paços. With the Liga NOS season winding down (or winding up depending on your viewpoint), transfer rumors abound. Porto is at the heart of a lot of the transfer speculation, and the latest speculation is centered around Sergio Oliveira. Continue reading
Manchester City to Porto (loan)?
Manchester City starlet Marcos Lopes has wowed everyone this season with his numbered, yet impressive performances for Manchester City. Only 18 years of age, Rony Lopes (as he’s also called) managed four official appearances for Manchester City’s first team this season, and he didn’t just show up. He impressed. Named captain to City’s U21 squad for this past season, Lopes’s performances were impressive enough to warrant a place in and around City’s first team. Now, only 18 years old, it appears that Marcos Lopes, having already made a handful of appearances for City and debuted for the Portugal U-21 team, is ready for more first team action. Arsenal and Galatasaray are said to be interested in the attacking midfielder, but Manchester City would be foolish to let him go.
It is rumored that Manchester City have thought up a better alternative. City are currently interested in Porto’s Eliaquim Mangala and Fernando. The two players have indicated that they’d be open to a move to the Midlands, and a move doesn’t seem that far off. That is, if they can sweeten the pot enough for Porto. There is no shortage of money at Manchester City, but the club may be looking for additional methods of securing Mangala and Fernando. One bait is sending Marcos Lopes on loan to Porto for the season, a move that would surely be beneficial for both parties.
Pizzi, who recently returned to Braga from his loan at Pacos Ferreira, is reportedly very close to a move to La Liga giants Atletico Madrid. Pizzi has continued his stellar form from last season at Pacos Ferreira to this pre-season with Braga, often one of their more eye-catching performers. The winger was the subject of interest from Russia, namely Zenit St.Petersburg, but the move did not materialize. Now, Atletico are swooping down to secure his signature. It won’t be cheap, though. A fee of 14 million is reported to be the agreed fee, as that is his release clause. If Pizzi does indeed join Atletico Madrid, he will be the third Portuguese acquisition of the summer for the Spanish giants, after Silvio and Tiago.
19 year-old Joao Silva, currently Liga de Honra’s top goalscorer, has apparently reached a transfer agreement with English side Everton that would see him join them this summer. The Deportivo das Aves striker, who stands at 1.9 meters, has raised some eyebrows with his advanced goalscoring ability. Porto, Braga, and Nacional were all thought to have been following the young Portuguese striker. Everton, however, looks to have won the race for his signature, supposedly bringing him to Goodison Park this summer for a believed fee of around 0.7 million.
It looked as if Edinho’s loan deal to Maritimo was a done deal, but the Portuguese international has decided to stay at Malaga. I believe that he chose to stay because of the goal he scored against Getafe in the Spanish Cup. This may sound silly, but with the limited amount of playing time he has received at Malaga, a goal could come as relief, or even hope. He probably also realized that if he moved to Maritimo, that his chances of playing in the World Cup would be slim-to-none. Here’s the Goal:
